BIOGRAPHY

Kathy and Fred Giampietro

After more than two decades, Fred Giampietro has emerged as a leading expert in the field of American Folk Art. He has been instrumental in the formation of many major private collections. Hundreds of exceptional items he has discovered or handled are published in many of the seminal books on American Folk Art.

A native of Connecticut, Fred Giampietro is a trained classical musician. He holds a masters degree in music performance from Yale University. A double bassist, he has performed with the Miami Philharmonic, Palm Beach Symphony and New Haven Symphony.

Over 25 years ago, he opened his first shop, bringing his discipline and skills in the musical arts to his antiques business. This early exposure to a broad range of American antiques has nurtured an inherent ability to analyze antiques and art from both the standpoint of originality and form.

Many years of handling 18th- and 19th-century material that includes furniture, pottery, textiles and metals, have augmented his expertise in the field of American Folk Art.

Fred Giampietro has been an exhibitor in major antiques venues including the prestigious Winter Antiques Show in New York City. He maintained a gallery in New York from 1994 to 1999.

In addition to serving clients for acquisition and as a broker at auction, he is in demand for appraisal services and dispersal of collections and estates. He has set a 25-year tradition in the business with a gallery open by appointment in New Haven, Connecticut, where he resides with his wife, Kathryn, and son, Claude.

Fred Giampietro subscribes to a clear but demanding set of standards in his business, scrutinizing items with an educated and intuitive approach. It is his philosophy that an object is only as strong as its weakest element.

Fred Giampietro is a leading source for the best in American Folk Art.
